Yesterday was rough. Sleepless night before and then in the afternoon, the last straw with Mwalimu Mutima. I decided to call it quits with Swahili after realizing this class was going to be a potential source of emotional stress, despite its being an extracurricular item for me. Am feeling a mixture of relief and loss. Swahili is officially on the back burner now, finalizing my inevitable regression from all that I gained in the summer. In many ways, it was a low-return time sink, but it was also a relief from my field preparations. John was essential to helping me feel better. He was perfect, really. And then when I told Nicole in a long email rant, her words resonated with empathy that touched the heart of my grief and frustration. Feeling sad about Swahili but privileged to have supportive people in my life.
